I’m Back, Poozers!

Posted in Tournament Reports with tags , , on May 21, 2008 by maidstonedemon

To say that my Blog has been somewhat neglected recently would be somewhat of an understatement. So the heading is somewhat apt for that reason but also because the addition of the DCX card was the main change in my GLC deck from the version played at the UK Nationals.

Traditionally our GDI (Grinning Demon Invitational) events are Golden Age events with the unwritten rule of no broken decks allowed. However this week, just to mix things up, we had settled on running a Golden Age Random Punks event, akin to the one held in Luton over the weekend. To be honest, this meant very few changes for my GLC deck as it was only Oa, Sinestro (6), Two-Face and Anti-Monitor that were lost so I concentrated on the off-curve aspect of the deck, changed out helping hands for Cover Fire’s and Guardians Reborn for the excellent Welcome Back Poozers. My eventual decklist looked like this……

Mighty Oaks from Little Acorns Grow, pt1 (UK Nationals Tourney Report)

MIGHTY OAKS FROM LITTLE ACORNS GROW

The above title pretty much sums up the UK Nationals. It started off as a casual statement along the lines of, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool to have a National Championship like they have on the MtG scene’, then it was thirty or so people, a venue and a handful of prizes provided by myself, Steve Garrett and Jason Howlett (trophy, playmat and EA bundle respectively). Finally with only a couple of days to go before the tourney we had a hatful of great surprises.

1)      Registration reached 49 people

2)      UDE Europe came up trumps with 25 T-Shirts, 16 Playmats, Hulk Trophies and more EA’s

3)      UDE’s Ben Seck informs us that the top 8 finishers will all receive invites to the World Championships

Here is an account of the event from the perspective of the guys and gals of Team Demon.

Maidstone Monthly - Tournament Report pt 1

Posted in Tournament Reports with tags , , , on March 5, 2008 by maidstonedemon

We did it!

We set a new record for turnout for our Monday night monthly events with thirteen players making it to the Style and Winch for the event, beating the previous best of twelve. Although our playgroup in Maidstone has grown to around twenty players it is rare we can get this many together at the same time due to work and social commitments so this increase in competitors is encouraging, especially as two of the players were playing in their first proper tournament.

London City Champs - Tournament Report pt 2

Round 3 - Amy Chizlett - Future Foes
Amy is a regular at the Maidstone events and my previous encounter with her Future Foes build had been less than favourable. I had struggled to deal with the size of her early drop characters, but was hoping that the addition of King Shark to the mix would help on that front.

London City Champs - Tournament Report - Part 1

Posted in Tournament Reports with tags , , on February 19, 2008 by maidstonedemon

Its bizarre, but I’ve spent more time testing for this tournament than any tournament previously, despite it being only a City Champs. Maybe it was because all the members of Team Demon were going to be decked out in matching shirts, maybe because we were filming an event outside of Maidstone for the first time, or maybe because I was finally going to get to meet and play Steve ‘Kamiza’ Garrett in person….who knows.

Anyway, four of us set out from Maidstone East to make the journey up to Euston, we had arranged to meet the other three members of Team Demon up there. I’d had tweaked my SS Grodd Control deck till it squeaked ( see blog entry, City Champs - Decklists for my list) and was confident in its ability to finish the day with at least a winning record. Four days and counting

Posted in Tournament Reports with tags , , on February 13, 2008 by maidstonedemon

OK…four days to go and Grodd and his colleagues got another run out at our weekly event, The Grinning Demon Invitational.
Happy with the results although really hope i can acquire the 2 sharks and 2 mantas as the deck struggled a little without them. Despite the fact that I felt the deck was lacking, secured a 3-0 performance bagging a tournament win. Read more »
