Thursday Thirteen - Why the GLC?

OK, the Nationals are tomorrow and I’ve plumped for a GLC build incorporating cards from the DGL set. Why have I plumped for a deck that Tommy Ashton rates as tier 4 for the format….well here’s thirteen reasons why.

1) My all time favourite comic character is the Green Arrow, now being as there isn’t a set that focuses on him as a ‘legend’ i had to settle for the next best thing, his Hard Travelling Companion, Hal Jordan, THE Green Lantern and the rest of his GL buddies.

2) When GLEE was all the rage during the DC Modern season way back when I was playing anything but GLEE so as to be different from the norm, thought it was time the guys got a run out, even if they are missing Dr.Light.

3) A recent Ashes to Ashes episode (my current fave on TV) referred to Red Ken and the GLC. I saw this as an omen because at that point I was undecided between the SS deck that won me the London City Champs and the boys of the Corps.

4) The DGL set contains the best Hidden Hate card going, No Man Escapes the Manhunters. Never a dead card, it is great in all matchups. Add that to Rot Lop Fan as an alternate 4-drop, the deck can deal with ’sneaky concealed guys’

5) The baseball season has just started. Now you may wonder why that is relevant, but being an A’s fan playing the Kerry Green Lantern Corps seems wholly appropriate.

6) I’m British, therefore I immediately shy away from tier 1 and 2 decks.

7) I can sneak in a couple of Breaking Grounds, great in the fact that they can target Locations or Ongoing PT’s, including my own, with no restrictions on being able to target team-ups. Resource Hate = Good.

8) I can play Guy Gardner, who wouldn’t want to play a character who creates (with his ring) Nubile Wenches to massage him. Despite his Glass Jaw, he’s still a dude.

9) It’s funny when Olapet takes down an opponents 7 drop.

10) I can play a totally foiled version of the deck.

11) If an opponent misses 1 and 2, the chop block lock is difficult to escape from.

12) Sinestro Corps War was the best comic storyline of 2007, so I wanted a deck that included Sinestro somewhere.

13) The deck can go on or off-curve, stall or aggro. I like to have options, being able to adapt gameplan according to matchup is always handy, although the deck is a little bit of a Jack-of-all-Trades, Master of None.

My expectations are not high for the day, I’m aiming for 4-4 with 5-3 being a real bonus.

oops, its Saturday so better make it a Saturday Sixteen

14) I like playing decks with cosmic squirrels

15) With the Ring and Olapet for characters and Kyle for constructs, the deck has reasonable search, although location finding is a bit hit or miss.

16) Two words, Free Draw (Birthing Chamber).
OK sorry 4 words and two brackets
