Four days and counting

OK…four days to go and Grodd and his colleagues got another run out at our weekly event, The Grinning Demon Invitational.
Happy with the results although really hope i can acquire the 2 sharks and 2 mantas as the deck struggled a little without them. Despite the fact that I felt the deck was lacking, secured a 3-0 performance bagging a tournament win.

Game 1 was against Jack and his Marvel Defenders. Jack had won the last two events (combined 7-0 in them) and was 1-1 in all events with Defenders vs SS. A great game again between us, as per the previous two. The key play was on turn 4 with me finally sticking it to Nova with an Unnatural Selection to back it up. I was ahead then for the rest of the game, although turn 7 was scary with him having the initiative and hitting the 7-drop Hulk. Fortnately for me I hung on and was able to hit back for a load on turn 8 FTW as Jack under-dropped a 5-drop Strange, whereas I went Black Manta and Dr.Psycho. An unstunnable Mark Desmond with repeatable Path of Destructions is something quite scary.

Game 2 was against Dave and his X-Babies. I really need to work with Dave on his build of this as it is caught betwixt and between, with no real idea as to what it wants to be doing. Add to this the fact he missed drops on turns 1 and 2, it wasn’t close. I have to play my deck with a compleely different approach against off curve/weenie, but now seem to have things down well.

Game 3 saw me up versus Andy with his newly built Darkseid Elite deck. This wasn’t close, early game Unnatural’s followed up by MSMD left me well in the drivers seat. I handled the late game corners just fine and swung with a 48/16 unstunnable Mark Desmond on turn 7 for a stack of breakthrough.

Tonights tourney wasn’t the best workout because apart from the first game, as the opposing decks weren’t of the standard I’d expect to see at the City Champs. However, the deck performed well, was consistently on-curve and my decision time has increased no end as familiarity with the deck improves.
